Shin Splints
Shin splints, or medial tibial stress syndrome, is a very common condition. It is pain that runs along the shinbone, the long bone in the front of your lower leg (called the tibia). Shin splints are not a single medical condition. Instead, it’s a symptom of an underlying problem. The pain is the result of an overload on the shinbone and the connective tissues that attach your muscles to the bone. The causes are varied: flat feet, running, dancing, increased intensity of training, stress fractures (tiny hairline breaks in the bone), and a change of training surface (i.e., track to asphalt) can all be causes.
Symptoms may include tenderness, soreness, or pain along the inner part of your lower leg, mild swelling and weakness or numbness in the feet
Calf Strain
A calf strain is an injury to the muscles and tendons in the back of the leg, below the knee. Often called a “pulled” muscle, a strain occurs when the muscle fibers or tendons are stretched or torn. This condition can occur during any physical activity where you push off forcefully from your toes. It may occur in running, jumping, or lunging. Symptoms may include immediate calf pain, you may hear or feel a pop or snap in the calf, difficulty rising on toes, bruising and swelling may occur
Imbalances
Contrary to what most people believe, a majority of Ankle and Foot problems come from imbalances in the low Back, Hip or Knee. As a result, we put excessive force onto the Ankle and Foot.
Improper Shoes
A lot of people do not wear the proper shoes, so over time there can be gradual wear and tear on the Ankle and Foot. A lot of shoes in our society are unhealthy and wearing the wrong type of shoes can cause problems overtime and increase your risk of spraining your ankle. Some women have problems in their toes because they wear and walk in shoes that are too small. They may get a blister once in a while and they’ll think they need to let the blister heal. What most do not realize is that wearing small shoes is changing the mechanics of their feet and causing wear and tear on the joints.
